Therapeutic benefits of Yoga and Art
Tuesday, May 14, 2013
At some point in our lives most of us will be in search of a hobby or activity which provides us a break from reality. Through various studies we now know that it's essential for adults to experience a little down time. When we don't create this precious and important time for ourselves, the stress of every day life begins to take its toll and can cause disease in our bodies and our minds. Many people find therapeutic relief in activities such as dance, yoga, art and music.
Ask most yogis (someone who practices yoga) and they will tell you that yoga allows them to establish a deeper awareness to their physical body. This awareness helps them release stress and tension placed on their bodies and their minds. Some might say they enjoy yoga because it gives them an opportunity to explore the mind-body connection. In other words, how our thoughts shape our day-to-day lives in what can be both beneficial, and in some cases, harmful ways.
Another outlet for stress and tension and a vehicle for self expression and creativity, is art. Many artists enjoy translating their thoughts and feelings into a visual expression. Painting, drawing and other forms of art can be great tools for adults to release stress, tension and anxiety.
